CHRISTIANA MALL — Shoppers were briefly thrown into mild, gentle confusion Tuesday afternoon after a local man walked through the food court looking just enough like John Lithgow to cause a ripple of unnecessary excitement.
Eyewitnesses say the man — described as “tallish,” “grayish,” and “Lithgow-adjacent” — was simply minding his business, strolling past the Auntie Anne’s, when another shopper froze, squinted dramatically, and whispered, “No way… is that John Lithgow?”
Moments later, the man approached mall security with what he called an “emergency celebrity sighting.”
“Hey, excuse me,” he said, slightly breathless. “Is that John Lithgow I just saw near the Sunglass Hut?”
Mall security, who report this sort of thing “about twelve times a week,” responded with the standard protocol:
a polite nod, a quick glance in the general direction, and the official line —
“Sir, statistically speaking, the odds of John Lithgow being at this mall are low… but never zero.”
The Lithgow-looking man continued walking, unaware of the attention, radiating the calm confidence of someone who had been mistaken for a celebrity at least twice in his life: once today, and once at a CVS in 2014.
Shoppers report that while he was definitely not John Lithgow, he was undeniably Lithgow enough to make everyone mildly uncertain for a full 8–12 seconds.
As of press time, no further sightings were reported, though mall officials remain vigilant.

Not Lithgow
