Lewes Man Scores Much Coveted Dentist Appointment

Millard: When we moved here from PA, we didnt know the infrastrucure hadn't upgraded since the 80s

By Dr. Mei Lin  |  Medical Correspondent

REHOBOTH BEACH, DE — In an unprecedented move that has left Sussex County residents stunned and impressed, Greg Millard of Lewes succesfully booked a dental appointment. After nearly a year of calling around, he did what any proud new Sussex County resident would do: he shared the miracle on Facebook.

> “Finally got in to see a dentist!!! Only eight-month wait!!! 😁🙏”
— Greg’s viral post, Sunday, 10:14 a.m.

Within two hours, the post had racked up 106 likes, five shares, and a full comment thread of congratulations.
Friends chimed in with “You give us hope!” and “Did you go through a connection, or pure luck?”

Several friends and neighbors even messaged him privately to ask which office he’d called and whether they were “taking new patients, or just you.”

By noon, Millard says he’d received seven direct messages, including a congratulatory message from the Sussex County Council informing him that he'd been nominated for Sussex County Person of the Year.

Millard’s wife, Sharon, says she’s thrilled for her husband but skeptical. “I told him, don’t get too excited. They’ll probably reschedule it for 2027.”

Still throughout the community, support and praise poured on from all sides. "It's such a blessing when we can share and celebrate this incredible feat as a community. It makes us all feel proud," said Myrtle Bumgarner, 87 of Angola.

Governor Meyer praised the feat as "Awe inspiring," and plans to commemorate the date as "Greg Millard Day: The Day Sussex Smiled".

Officials at the Delaware Dental Association declined to comment, noting only that they are “aware of the supply-and-demand imbalance” and “working on it.”

Meanwhile, Greg plans to mark the big day — June 4, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. — on his calendar in permanent ink. “I just hope I still have teeth left by then,” he said.
